How to link Abaqus 6.14. to Intel Parallel studio XE 2016 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010

To be able to achieve real power of Abaqus we need desperately to employ many available subroutines particular common subroutines such as UMAT and VUMAT. However, before being able to use them, Abaqus subroutine should be compiled. To doing so, we need two important software:

1- Intel Parallel Studio XE 2016 Update 3 Professional

2- Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate x86 + MSDN Library + SP1

After installing these two software (which will take quite a while), we have to do following steps:

1- From the start, find the “Intel Parallel studio XE 2016 > Compiler and performance libraries “ and right click on “compiler 16 update 3”, More, open file location. If you could not find exact name, just find the one with black icon which represents command prompt. In the new opened windows, we will have two files one for 32bit and one for 64bit windows version. Depending on your system, choose the appropriate one. Right click on that, properties and copy all content in “Target”. Close the widows.

2- Return to Start, find “Abaqus command” in “Abaqus” folder, right click on “Abaqus command”> more> open file location, again right click on that, go to the properties and paste the address on Target and click on OK.

3- Now click on “Abaqus command” so that it ran. We have to obtain following result.

4- Go to the Abaqus installation folder “C:Program Files (x86)SIMULIAAbaqusCommands”.

5- Find “abq6144.bat”. My version is 6-14-4. If your version is different, find the similar bat file.

6- Open it in Wordpad. Now you may see some code like these:

7- Copy and paste following codes after “@echo off”.

call "C:Program Files (x86)IntelSWToolscompilers_and_libraries_2016.3.207windowsbinipsxe-comp-vars.bat" intel64 vs2010

call "C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0VCbinamd64vcvars64.bat" intel 64

8- Save and close Wordpad.

9- Go to the start and find and click on “Abaqus Cae”. You have to see something like these.

10- Now, You have done all the necessary tasks for link Abaqus to compilers. To make sure, everything is right, go to the “Abaqus command” and type and enter following code:

Abaqus verify –user_std

11- If you got PASS…, then you are successful and now you can use your subroutines without any concerns.
